The short winner
Pick Embark Breed + Health if you will open the health-marker report and you want the kit we already put first on the DNA ranking. The research-collaboration story is part of why. It is still a consumer swab.
Pick a health-inclusive Wisdom Panel kit if Embark is out of stock, the sale price is the real constraint, or you are already standing in a pet store and you will read the box to confirm health markers are in that SKU. Wisdom is the other name people type. It is a real lab product.
Pick breed-only on either brand only if you truly will not wonder about health variants next week. Pick neither if the dog has a clinical question. That belongs at a clinic.
Buy the health SKU on purpose
“Embark” is not one object. Breed + Health is the kit. Breed ID is the cheaper ancestry swab. “Wisdom Panel” is not one object either. Retail breed kits and health-inclusive bundles get photographed the same way. The box is the product.
When the two serious kits disagree on a small breed slice, that is the method. We will not referee 4%. A report you can hand a veterinarian without embarrassment beats a pie chart you will argue about at a meetup.

These are the same public neighborhoods as our DNA ranking. Sales move them, especially around holidays. A $70 gap is not a reason to buy a no-name swab.

What neither kit does
Cannot: diagnose disease, replace bloodwork or imaging, predict behavior, or settle a housing argument by itself. A “clear” health report is the list of variants that company looked for. It is not a warranty.
If a marker comes back “at risk,” send the PDF to your clinic. Do not start a supplement stack from the email. Behavior is training, management, and sometimes medicine — a swab is not calming gear.
Do not breed from a consumer report alone. Health testing for an actual breeding program is a different, usually breed-club, conversation.
Skip-ifs
Skip Embark if you will not read a long report and you only wanted a party pie. Skip Wisdom if you already decided you want Embark’s health panel and you are only impatient. Skip both if you wanted a $30 “results in 48 hours” kit from a lab you cannot name — that skip is already on the ranking.
Skip swabbing a dog in crisis so you have something to do. The appointment is the product.
