Pick Hill’s Science Diet if your clinic already talks Hill’s, you want a simpler life-stage ladder (puppy, adult, 7+), and you like that the prescription wall next to it is the same brand family.

Pick Royal Canin if the size-split or breed recipe is the actual constraint. Pick neither if a therapeutic diet is already on the table.

Pro Plan’s useful sentence is availability plus a lot of named recipes. That is a feature when the dog needs a puppy bag in a town you do not live in. It is a trap when you grab “sport” because it was on sale and the dog needed the puppy or 7+ recipe. Read the front of the bag.
