Is PrettyLitter worth it in 2026?

Worth it: one healthy adult cat, a box you will scoop solids from daily and stir, a household that likes a delivered 6 lb bag more than a 40 lb clay tub, and an owner who already has a veterinarian.

Not worth it: you wanted clumps for a globe, you will skip the vet because the litter “monitors health,” the cat hates the texture, or you have three cats and you bought one bag. Multi-cat litter is still mostly unscented clay and enough boxes.

Their FAQ markets color change as an early warning that can include urinary infections. That is their sentence. Ours is shorter: a color is not a urinalysis, a culture, or a reason to start antibiotics from a group chat.

The original product is non-clumping amorphous silica gel. Urine goes into the crystals. You scoop stool, stir the box, and dump the whole thing on their schedule — they say one 6 lb bag is about a month for one cat at about 2 inches of depth, and a rule of thumb of one bag per cat. Larger cats and larger boxes use more. They also sell a clumping version. Their help center lists that clumping bag at a higher price and says not to put the clumping formula in an automated box.

Scented SKUs exist (they name Lotus Flower and Calm Aloe next to unscented original). If your cat is picky or you hate perfume in a small apartment, start unscented. Transition slowly. Their own tips — a little of the old litter on top, or a stool moved over — are ordinary cat advice, not a guarantee.

You can buy single bags at some Walmart and Target stores. The subscription is the product they want. Read the cancel terms before the third shipment.

PrettyLitter’s FAQ says shades of yellow to olive green are their picture of typical acidity and alkalinity, and that any other color should be mixed and watched for 24 to 48 hours. If it persists, they say consider a veterinarian. They also say blue may indicate high alkalinity and “could be a sign” of a UTI. Could be is not a diagnosis.

Shared boxes make the color useless for knowing which cat. They say so themselves: isolate bathrooms if you see a change. A male cat who strains, cries, or stops passing urine does not get a 48-hour stir test. That is an emergency. Urinary diets are what a clinic prescribes after an exam, not what a crystal replaces.

Blood you can see, a cat who skips the box, or a cat who stops eating is the same rule. The litter did not “catch it early” if you use the color to delay the appointment.

PrettyLitter’s help center lists the original non-clumping bag at $24 for 6 lb when bought from their site, and the clumping bag at $29.99 for 10 lb. The marketing line “as little as $24 a month” is that one-cat original bag, before a promo and before a second cat. Multi-month bundles on their site sometimes show a lower per-bag number. A tub of clumping clay is often cheaper if you already scoop and you can lift it. PrettyLitter’s pitch is less weight, fewer store trips, and the color. You still scoop stool every day. You still dump the box about monthly. The labor savings are real for some studios and fictional for people who were already efficient.

PrettyLitter’s FAQ says non-clumping crystals are compatible with most self-cleaning boxes, that many people use them in the Litter-Robot 3 and earlier, and that they are not ideal for the Litter-Robot 4 because the sensors do not see the light-colored litter. They say the clumping formula is not for automated boxes. Whisker’s manual still wins if the two brands disagree. Do not discover a sensor error with a full month of silica. The cost math for the machine is Litter-Robot over time and is a Litter-Robot worth it.

Two cats means two bags and, if you care about whose urine changed color, two boxes. That is the same n+1 logic as clay, at a higher unit price. Apartment cats who hate the texture will pee on the bath mat. The bath mat is more expensive than the bag you tried to save.
