Best dog seatbelts and tethers (2026)
A dog seatbelt is a tether. The job is: connect a crash-tested harness to a seat-belt path the brand actually published — not clip a walking harness to a stalk with a $9 adapter.

Kurgo Direct to Seatbelt / Enhanced Strength tether

A cargo crate instead (honorable)
A 70-pound dog plus a tether is still 70 pounds at the buckle. A tested crate is often the adult answer. Travel crates.

- Large dogs and SUVs

- Sedan, no well.

How we scored tethers
Whether the strap belongs to a published harness test, length honesty, and whether you can buy a spare. We are not a lab. Pretty latches scored zero.
The tether is not the harness
People shop “seatbelts” because the word is familiar. The energy goes through the vest. If the vest was not tested, the strap is a leash to a buckle. Car harnesses first. Seat covers after.
Short enough that they cannot climb the console. Long enough that they can lie down. That window is smaller than the product photo. Puppies outgrow webbing. Highway trips still want water and a bag.
