Best pet stairs for beds and couches (2026)
Pet stairs are a ramp’s rectangular cousin. The job is: get a small dog, a senior, or a joint-shy cat onto the bed without a leap.
We ranked steps US owners can buy from a brand site. Scores are editorial. Public prices are dated September 20, 2026. Stairs are not a pain protocol. Limping after a jump is a clinic. A gate is the opposite object — it blocks stairs.

Solvit / PetSafe-class folding steps
Folding steps live in a closet and come out for the guest bed. Fine. Hinges must lock. A fold that collapses mid-climb is how people learn about ACL invoices.

- Travel and households that need to hide the staircase
- Skip if
- You wanted a forever foam lounge.

High-density foam steps
Foam is quiet and kind to shins. Covers must wash. A peed-in foam core is a science project. Puppy beds logic applies — they will test zippers.

- Small dogs and cats, and rooms that should not clang
- Skip if
- A Lab will use them as a chew.

The honorable mention is a ramp. Better for dachshunds and some seniors. Needs floor length. The senior stack already says this.

- Long dogs, seniors, and cars
- Skip if
- You have no run-up and a tiny studio.

This slot is a no. A last leap from a tiny step is still a leap. Buy enough rises.

- Nobody whose mattress is 30 inches

- You measured.

The job is height plus grip plus stay-put. We do not score “matches the duvet.”
Height math
Measure mattress plus frame. Add a comforter. Each step should be a height the dog already climbs at the back door. Teach with treats. Do not throw a rescue at a new staircase on night one.
