Get a quote for this dog’s calories, not a neighbor’s spaniel. Confirm freezer space. Read whether the plan is complete-and-balanced. If the clinic named a therapeutic kibble, this project is a conversation with them, not a podcast.

The mix
A common pattern is days of 25/75, 50/50, 75/25 if stool stays formed. Some companies publish their own calendar — follow the stricter one. Soft stool: hold the last ratio. Blood, vomiting, or collapse: clinic, not a new protein.
Thaw in the fridge, not on a counter a puppy can reach. Multi-dog homes: separate bowls so the vacuum does not eat two portions. A slow feeder still helps inhalers. Messy eaters still sling pâté — use a station.

Do not run three subscriptions. Pick one logo. Autoship can still do the dental chews and bags.
Travel weeks: pantry or a complete kibble backup so you are not hunting dry ice. Moving is a bad week to debut a rich pâté. Multi-pet feeding if a cat will steal the pack — onions and seasoning are a different emergency. Write the daily grams on the fridge so a sitter does not “eyeball it.”
What “fine” looks like
Formed stool, normal energy, and a dog that still wants the bowl. Mucus for a day can happen; repeated blood does not. A fountain helps some drinkers on richer food. Weigh them at two weeks — fresh calories hide in “just a little extra.” Golden and GSD pages are still complete-diet math, not a license to free-feed pâté. If they itch more, stop guessing and call the clinic.
Skip-ifs
Skip a cold-turkey swap on a sensitive gut. Skip homemade “just like them” without a nutritionist. Skip using fresh to treat an itch you have not diagnosed.
