Is Feliway worth it in 2026?
Feliway is worth it as a plug-in you will actually leave on, in the room where the cat spends time, while you fix the thing that changed — a move, a new animal, a box that got dirty. It is not worth it as the only plan for a fight or a cat who cannot pee.
Classic is a synthetic copy of a facial pheromone. Friends (the multi-cat product) is a different vial. Optimum is a third pitch. This page is Classic, because that is the kit people mean. Verdict
Worth a 30-day trial: one cat, one room, a specific stressor you can name (movers, a baby, a carrier trip you are about to repeat), an outlet that is not behind the couch, and a litter box that is already clean.
Not worth it: urine spraying you have not mentioned to a veterinarian, two cats who already fight and have no separate resources, or a diffuser you unplug because you disliked the first day’s smell. Their own instructions say leave it on. A diffuser in a drawer is a $25 paperweight.
Evidence for pheromone products is mixed and depends on which behavior was studied. We are not upgrading “clinically tested” on a box into “this will stop your cat.” If it does nothing after a real month of correct use, stop buying refills and spend the money on a vet visit or a trainer who does not start with punishment.
What you are buying
The Classic starter kit is a plug-in and one 48 ml vial. Feliway says a refill lasts up to about 30 days, that one diffuser covers up to about 700 square feet of open space, and that it does not send pheromone through a closed door. Hallways and split-level apartments need more than one, or they need the diffuser in the room that matters.
They also say to keep the unit unobstructed — not under a shelf, not behind the sofa, not in a draft from a window — and to replace the diffuser device itself about every six months. A new vial on a dead warmer is a common way to decide the product “stopped working.”
Friends / Multicat is marketed for tension between cats. It is not a stronger Classic. If the problem is two cats and you bought Classic because the box was blue, you bought the wrong vial. Read the front. Multi-cat households still need boxes, food stations, and vertical space. The plug does not add a room.
The money (September 23, 2026)
PetSmart listed the Classic 30-day starter kit at $24.99, down from $27.99. The US Feliway shop has shown the starter set around $21.99, and other pharmacies have listed it near $30. Call the starter about $22–$30. A refill is a separate vial for about another month. Price that vial at checkout. Do not assume the starter price repeats.
Two rooms means two kits. A 1,400-square-foot open plan is their own edge of the “up to 700” sentence. Year one of “we just leave it on” is twelve vials plus a second device at six months. That can clear $200 without fixing a dirty box. Do the addition before you subscribe.
There is no partner code of ours on the button. Buy from the brand or a retailer you can return to if the cat never cared.

What it will not do
It will not treat a urinary blockage. A cat who strains, cries, or visits the box and produces nothing is an emergency. The diffuser can wait in the car. Urinary food is a prescription conversation, not a calming conversation.
It will not replace a slow introduction. Scent, a door, and a cat room are the protocol. Plugging Classic into the shared hall on day one is how both cats learn the hall is the problem.
It will not stop scratching if the cat has no legal post. Buy a scratcher and read how to stop scratching furniture. A pheromone is not a couch cover.
Sprays exist for carriers and travel. A wall diffuser does not scent a carrier in the car. Use the product that matches the room you are actually in. Traveling with a cat is the rest of that day.
Skip-ifs
Skip Feliway if you will not leave it plugged in for the month they ask for. Skip it if the outlet is behind furniture. Skip Friends if you have one cat and you wanted a discount vial. Skip Optimum because a newer name sounded more serious and you did not read which behaviors it claims.
Skip it as a substitute for pain control, a dental, or a checkup in a senior cat who started urinating outside the box. Old cats get sick. They do not get “stressed” as the first diagnosis from a blog.
