Is Petcube worth it in 2026?
A Petcube is worth it when you want a pet-first camera with two-way talk, you will use Bites or Play (treat vs laser), and you will pay for the Care-class extras you actually open in week four.
It is not worth it as a cheaper Wyze, as jewelry, or as a substitute for a sitter. Bites-class hardware often about $130–$200. Cloud is a second bill. Dated September 20, 2026. Verdict
Worth it: households that will talk through the cube, toss an occasional treat, or laser a cat that does not then demolish the tree at 3 a.m.
Not worth it: people who wanted Furbo’s bark-alert story; anyone who will not pay cloud; a food-guarding dog; a $35 hallway cam job.
Play and Bites are different toys. Buy the SKU that matches the animal.
What you are buying
A cube, an app, two-way audio, and either a treat hopper or a laser. It is not a veterinary device. It is not a GPS collar. If they leave the yard, you will watch an empty rug.
Treat size matters. Jams happen. A laser is enrichment for some cats and a rehearsal for parkour for others.
Privacy is a camera on your LAN. Use a password you do not reuse.

Hardware commonly ~$130–$200 for Bites/Play-class. Care / cloud plans are monthly or annual. Year one is camera plus the features you use. Year two is the plan if the cube still lives.

When it is worth it
You will open the app. You want talk more than a doorbell cam. You have a cat that likes a laser or a dog that likes a toss. You already have a crate in frame.
When it is not worth it
You wanted Furbo barking alerts. You wanted a treat-dispenser ranking — cameras with treat dispensers. You will not pay month four. The leak is a walk, not a cube.
