A first-time cat owner stack (2026)
A first cat does not need a $699 robot and a DNA kit on day one. The cat needs a box they will use, a complete food you can repurchase, a carrier, water, a scratcher, and a veterinarian on the calendar.

The home
A spare room for the first days. Cords, strings, lilies, and human pain meds are emergencies. A tree or a sturdy perch beats a $400 condo at midnight. A furniture enclosure can wait until scooping is boring.
ID: chip at the clinic, breakaway collar if they will wear one. Do not debut free-roam. A camera is optional. Chewy vs Petco is how the litter continues.
Dogs in the house: gate the room. Do not “let them work it out.”
